One of my friendly colleagues I’m working with, was so kind to bring me the SATimes this morning. This is a SA newspaper that’s available in the UK …see their website too…www.satimesonline.com…and it was at a station on her way to school. I was, of course, glad to have something “made by South Africans” hehehe…in my hands…
When I turned to page three, this article caught my eye and I asked my colleagues if they know that Mugabe is a knight….and then…suddenly… about five/six people around me shouted…”WHAT!!!??” at once. “Yep, you heard me….” ….. “What did he do to deserve it…!” shouted about three of them….very shocked……and kind of angrily…..”Well, you tell me!” I replied…”..as I have NO idea what so ever…” Wonder if anyone reading here knows…”But did he not buy it!?” asked Nell (not her real name) in astonishment…”…did you know that you can buy it!” she continued, still in a state of “shock”. “Actually, no, he didn’t buy it…not according to this article…”
Watttt???
In 1994, Mugabe became the Knight Commander of the Order of Bath, knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.
Britain’s Foreign Office says it is reviewing the knighthood given to Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe.
Then-Prime Minister John Major made Mugabe an honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in 1994 when Mugabe was still considered a hero of the anti-colonial movement.
Britain’s Channel 4 said Monday (2 June 2008) officials were taking steps to strip him of the honor.
my question is…HOW ON EARTH DID HE DESERVE IT ANYWAY!! as he has started in 1994 already…to murder the white farmers…!!

5th June 2008
Gordon Brown has rejected angry calls to strip murderous dictator Robert Mugabe of his honorary knighthood.
Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg urged the Prime Minister to remove the honour to press the Zimbabwean president’s ‘odious regime to heel’.
But Mr Brown warned that revoking the title, awarded by John Major’s Tory government in 1994, would undermine Government efforts to force the tyrant to end human rights abuses, including beating, torturing and killing opponents.

He deserves his knighthood about as much as Yasser Arafat deserves his Nobel Peace Prize.
I remember hearing of him as a brutal kind of guy long before 1994. Do the Brits have such a guilt complex over colonialism that they feel they have to recognize anybody who was important in the anti-colonial movement as a hero, no matter what?

(I didn’t know OH PLEASE was Afrikaans. I guess I’m more of a polyglot than I thought. ;-))
Hi Jane, Yes, you’re right, his name can be added here on this site!! and I agree with you about the English…messed up a bit…and now ….
http://www.moreorless.au.com/killers/amin.html
and no, “oh please” is not Afrikaans, but we do use sometimes “expressions” from English in Afrikaans, depends on how you feel…lol! you get Afrikaans people that really mix their languages a lot…others now and then …my one sister hated us mixing our languages, she’s 8 years older than I am and she used to tell us off! about it…:)… that was when I was about 10-11…and therefore, I still don’t do it…but will use an expression sometimes…we will e.g. also use…”oh no!!”…etc. etc. …. like an emotive outburst…;)

Anyway it’s interesting about the SA Times. Sounds like a nice paper to read if you’re living in London.
Nice Sunday for all of you. It’s quite cold here. 2 Degrees and I’m off to church.
