Happy New Year

26/12/2013 by Nikita

chesshappyny
I’ve been playing around – as you can see. Happy New Year to you all! May 2014 be the best year ever. I do pray for peace all over the world and for those with evil minds – to poach more rhinos – will come to their senses – and all other evil-minded people too. I wish for a ‘fresh start’ for all countries and people and to bury their differences and live in peace and harmony.

I wish I could also liked to play draughts πŸ˜‰

    A Christmas/New Year story:

In 1948 a Washington radio station telephoned foreign ambassadors and asked what each would like for Christmas/New Year.

The French ambassador uttered some sugary platitude about World peace.
The Soviet ambassador scored a cheap political point about “freedom from imperialist enslavement”.
The British Ambassador Sir Oliver Franks’ reply was simple and honest: β€˜It’s very kind of you to ask,’ he said, β€˜I’d quite like a small box of crystallised fruit.’

Draughts, I played it as a child, a lot! Loved it a lot, but not played it ever since. πŸ™‚ I like the simple and honest reply. Simple. πŸ™‚

They won’t though – there’s an agenda and people have gone too far.

You’re right, it’s gone way too far. So sad.

I don’t know the best way to reach you, so I’ll leave this here. I came across this article while waiting in the doctor’s office (wife has a bad cold). When I got home, I looked it up online and found the article there. Let me know what you think of it (email me). http://www.thetrumpet.com/article/11238.30950.161.0/the-truth-about-nelson-mandela

hi Dan, Thank you for this link, it’s the truth and very upsetting. This is also what I’ve been saying to you…for how many years now?

So many people believe he is THE hero! Sadly, they are ignorant and don’t know what was/is going on in SA. Shame, the country could have been one of THE best places [for all] to be in the world. That shows racism is deeper than it is. There is another problem, not just because of the ‘white skin’ of the rest of SA, but it is something deeper – a kind of deep jealousy towards the whole white race and they try to get the white race back – not just because it;s SAcans, but overall, if you ask me. Just a pity that the SAcans are the ones that suffer this way, to make up for the whites in the rest of the world. If you read comments from other sites/blogs etc, you can see how deep racism is rooted in America as well.

Hello! While searching for an image to incorporate in the cover of my soon-to-be-published novel (Thunder of the Veldt – set in South Africa during the Boer War) I came across a picture (I think on Pinterest) with a link to your blog. The image shows a soldier on horseback leading another horse. I would be most grateful if you could let me know whether it is copyrighted and where I can obtain a copy.
Thanks and with compliments on your very interesting and informative blog.

      Hello Daphne
Thank you for stopping by and for your kind message.

I guess this is the image link?
The artist is Ron Wilson – as I’ve indicated it. It will be a copy right=protected image and I got it off from a website – it is not my own. Please do a search and I’m quite sure you will find it. If I find the original site, I will post it here for you as well or email you. I hope you will check back to check the image link.

      Thanks for your visit. Regards

Thanks for your swift and helpful reply. I will contact the artist if /when my publisher finds the image suitable for the cover.
      Many thanks!
      Daphne

  • Spoken by great men:"Give me 20 divisions of American soldiers and I will breach Europe. Give me 15 consisting of Englishmen and I will advance to the borders of Berlin. Give me two divisions of those marvellous fighting Boers and I will remove Germany from the face of the earth." - Field Marshal Bernard L. Montgomery, Commander of the Allied Forces during WW2.

  • "The Americans fight for a free world, the English mostly for honour, glory and medals, the French and Canadians decide too late that they have to participate. The Italians are too scared to fight, the Russians have no choice. The Germans for their Fatherland. The Boers? Those sons of Bitches fight for the hell of it." American General, George 'Guts and Glory' Patton.
