In these photos: Year 1’s doing a South African folk dance at a London school. The teacher asked me to teach them a dance as part of their topic of countries across the world. I taught them ‘Afrikaners is plesierig’.

Weereens baie baie dankie.

      hi Santi..ek weet nie hoe ek jou boodskap gemis het nie, ek is jammer! Ongelukkig sal jy nie so iets op die internet kry nie. Dis ongelukkig nie iets waarin ek nou dadelik belang het nie, dus gaan ek nie nou tyd hierin sit om nog voorbeelde te kry indien ek dit nie gaan gebruik nie. Jammer!

      GROEN IS DIE LAND VAN NATAL

      Woorde: ANTON DE WAAL
      Musiek: ALI ARLETOWICZ; verwerk: DIRKIE DE VILLIERS

      Groen is die land van Natal;
      wyd lê die velde omheen.
      Wolke seil hoog in die blou hemelboog
      en ‘n arend vlieg na die son.
      Groen is die land van Natal;
      daar waar die bergbokke wei.
      Stil wil ek droom langs ‘n koel waterstroom,
      van die wêrelddrang afgeskei.
      Teen die randjie staan ‘n huis
      waar my hart ontwaak.
      Saans wag my beminde daar;
      die dag is dan volmaak.
      Groen is die land van Natal;
      heuwel en vlakte en dal.
      Hier is ons tuis waar die koel winde suis
      in die groen, groen land van Natal.

      Kopiereg van melodie en teks: Impala, 1967.

      Hi Des!
      I’m busy with school reports, if I’m done, will see if I have time to translate this, not sure as I’m only starting with my reports today. By when does she want it?

    • on 06/06/2012 at 10:36 desdunstone

      I suppose yesterday!!! I too am doing reports so don’t stress. I tried the Google translation but she says that is not correct. I have also written to the Durban Men’s choir – maybe they will have a copy. Where do you teach.

    • on 06/06/2012 at 10:38 Nikita

      LOL! Ok, but I’m already stressing myself anyway out about these reports, teaching in the UK [too], guess you too as everybody’s busy with reports! haha… I hope you get your copy soon, will see what I can do.

      Hi Des
      This is very very rough – used google translate too and made minor changes – for rhythm one will have to make more changes– will look at it later – must start reports. 🙂

      Green is the land of Natal;
      fields lie widely around.
      Clouds sail high into the blue sky above
      and an eagle flies to the sun.

      Green is the land of Natal;
      where the mountain goats graze.
      Still, I dream beside a coolwater stream,
      separated from the urge of the world

      At the brink [there] stood a house
      where my heart is awake.
      At night my beloved is waiting
      the day is perfect.

      Green is the land of Natal;
      hill and plain and valley.
      Here is our home where the cold wind howls
      in the green, green land of Natal.

  • Spoken by great men:"Give me 20 divisions of American soldiers and I will breach Europe. Give me 15 consisting of Englishmen and I will advance to the borders of Berlin. Give me two divisions of those marvellous fighting Boers and I will remove Germany from the face of the earth." - Field Marshal Bernard L. Montgomery, Commander of the Allied Forces during WW2.

  • "The Americans fight for a free world, the English mostly for honour, glory and medals, the French and Canadians decide too late that they have to participate. The Italians are too scared to fight, the Russians have no choice. The Germans for their Fatherland. The Boers? Those sons of Bitches fight for the hell of it." American General, George 'Guts and Glory' Patton.
