2008 – Year of the Frog

Keeping threatened amphibian species afloat
Amphibians are facing great threats. About one third of the 6000 frog, toad, salamander and newt species are threatened with extinction, more than 120 species have likely become extinct since 1980, and 435 species have declined into a category of greater threat during that time.
In 2008, AArk (Amphibian Ark Global Campaign) will lead zoos in a globally coordinated public awareness campaign “The Year of the Frog”. The main goal of this campaign is to generate public awareness and understanding of the amphibian extinction crisis.
The National Zoological Gardens of South Africa is participating in the 2008 – Year of the Frog Campaign.

This song on the video, is a South African song…in Afrikaans… I want to call it a “traditional” song. This song can be performed - and it has been - in many primary school concerts. It tells the story of frog that wants to go visiting his girl friend. Unfortunately, frog needs a light! He decided to ask firefly to assist him, but firefly saw a business opportunity! He’s ready to assist frog, but at a rate of 1c per hour! They went to miss Frog and when they came there, mr Frog discovered the upsetting news…and that is that firefly’s light has been “welded” to his body! and that means that firefly will overhear what they’re saying… thus…frog decided to send firefly home! coz he thought 1c per hour was too expensive for being an eavesdropper too! Does anyone know the English version? Frog went a- courtin?
On THIS LINK you will find some firefly facts!
